EES Greencold Units

A REVOLUTION IN ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY, OFF-GRID SOLAR COOLING TECHNOLOGY

SUMMARY

We have recently developed a container-size, insulated device efficiently converting solar heat or process-waste heat into cold at +4 to +14 C. Operating sustainably and with no operating costs, it solves the common problem of storing & preserving food crops or dairy/meat products from spoiling before they can be transported to the market and sold, enabling mitigation of the climate disruption effects on a local economy.

Secondary applications – as medicine/vaccine storage or urban comfort stations

Tertiary application – producing small quantities of drinking water as a free by-product

MARKET NEED

Subsistence farmers in Africa and Asia have difficulty delivering their crops/dairy products to the market before they spoil (e.g. 6-8 hours for milk), due to local heat and humidity. Their trips to the market, or collection schedules, are limited by the costs involved and the distances travelled. As a result, they cannot fully participate in a market economy. In addition, lack of electrical grid or other means of generating electricity reliably means that the health care in these areas is greatly compromised, as medicines, vaccines, and in some case patients, can’t be provided.

VALUE PROPOSITION

Containerized chilling stations, operating without electricity, are built and marketed in locations where the climate disruption affects people at personal and economy levels and lower the cost of or replace existing cooling capacity. These stations will provide greatly and needed cooling facilities and valuable cold, drinking water without the use of fossil fuels or without the need for electrical grid power.

MARKET

EES can manufacture and sell/rent GreenCold units to local distributors or appropriate agencies/NGOs for a profit. They will be free to charge for the services provided, or to invent/develop their own secondary revenue streams.

CLIMATE IMPACT

This product is expected to have great environmental and economic impact in the target markets. Ten thousands GreenCold containers per year in year-round service will displace about 0.1 million MWh of electricity (predominantly fossil-based), which is equivalent to over fifty thousand metric tonnes CO2/yr initially and growing about the same amount with each passing year, due to growing equipment numbers (based on current UK Department of Energy and Climate Change data), and so adding up to about seven million tonnes CO2 total saved by the year 2030.

The development of this concept will foster reduction of GHG gases causing climate disruption, as well as increase the well-being of people in hot climates through better comfort, health care and market participation.

TECHNOLOGY

The underlying technology of absorption cooling is well-known, reliable and safe, but it’s much improved by the introduced proprietary technological changes, protected by a patent. This improvement results in the equipment being more efficient/productive (despite the fact that the energy used is free) and allows it to be more compact in order to be packaged into common containers.
