Under the National Climate Change Response Strategy carbon budgets were mentioned as an important tool for the Department of Environmental Affairs to engage with private sector on moving towards a low carbon economy. Large emitters can voluntary apply for a company specific carbon budget. In participating under the carbon budget process, companies will receive an additional 5% relieve on their carbon tax liability.
