National Biodigester Programme (NBP)

Biodigesters

National Biodigester Programme (NBP) is an undertaking of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), starting implementation in 2006. Up to date the programme operates in 14 provinces, including Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, Sieam Reap, Pursat, Kandal, Kampot, Kep, Sihanouk, Prey Veng and Kampong Thom. The objective of programme is to establish a permanent domestic biodigester sector on a commercial market oriented basis for the dissemination of biodigesters as an indigenous, sustainable energy source in selected provinces in Cambodia. Indeed, the development biodigester linked closely with livestock raising meaning that no livestock is no biodigester. Hence, it should continue to boost sustainable livestock production to ensure the raw materials (animal waste) to be fed into the biodigester in response to an approach that "promoting the development of livestock do not affect the environment" Up to end of Aug 2016, NBP has built 25,124 biodigesters built with 138,182 direct beneficiaries in all target provinces.
