RECYCLED FABRICS

As of 2021, BLU started incorporating recycled fabrics into our collections, starting with the RECYCLED BIKINI collection. We’re using Recycled Polyester (rPET), which is produced by recycling existing materials, like plastic bottles & packaging, and is reformed into fibre to create a more sustainable fabric alternative.

REDUCING ENERGY & CO2

At BLU, our priorities aren’t just to reduce waste though - we want to create affordable oceanwear that also has a minimal carbon footprint. By using recycled polyester, we’re using 33% to 53% less energy than creating polyester from scratch. Recycled polyester also produces approx. 54.6% fewer CO2 emissions to the air than virgin polyester.

If you don’t order it, we don’t make it. Simple. It’s no secret that fast-fashion excess stock often ends up in landfill, creating mountains of waste. At BLU, we make each and every purchase to order, meaning that we don’t unnecessarily hold stock - and nothing goes to waste. This helps to keep landfills free of excess stock and our carbon footprint down.
