 Composition of Polastic Insulation System

Polastic Insulation System’s cellular structure means it is stable and will not settle. It will not deteriorate or disintegrate and will deliver constant thermal insulation properties for the life of the building and improve indoor air quality.

The outer layer of Polastic Insulation System comprises an ultra-thin, lightweight, reflective plastic facer, similar to Mylar used and developed by NASA to insulate space suits and shield the International Space Station. Able to prevent extremes in both hot and cold temperatures, it has all the benefits of a foil without the conductive or corrosive drawbacks.

The interior or core of Polastic Insulation System comprises a highly flexible, proprietary formulated Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) core. The specially engineered polystyrene is derived from styrene. Formed from a chemical composition, styrene is a solid product with a similar visual resemblance to sugar granules called beads, which when subjected to steam, causes the styrene to soften and expand up to 40 times its original volume before being formed into a block. This process results in polystyrene consisting of over 95% dead air, nature’s best insulator!

The polystyrene block is then dried, removing residual vapours from its original composition. Polastic Insulation System’s sheets are cut to size from a polystyrene block to minimise wastage, then heat laminated with the reflective plastic.
