Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) Training

Elmhurst train and qualify Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) to undertake property assessments of existing dwellings. Using a government standard methodology they can calculate the energy performance of a property and produce a legally valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

Elmhurst’s City and Guilds accredited training is a fantastic introduction into the world of energy assessment; providing individuals with the skills and knowledge to produce energy calculations using Reduced data Standard Assessment Procedure (RdSAP) methodology- which is a lot easier than it sounds!

The role of the DEA explained

EPCs are required for all existing residential dwellings in the UK before they are sold or let. These certificates display the energy performance of a property on an A-G scale (A=Excellent, G=Poor), so that tenants, landlords and letting agents can easily identify how energy efficient the property is. 

In order to produce these important certificates, trained and qualified Domestic Energy Assessors must first visit the property to collect important property data. This includes a property description, and detail of dimensions, as well as information about heating, ventilation, flooring and the general construction of the property. From this data assessors can use government-approved software to calculate a dwelling's energy performance and can produce that all important EPC.
