Combined Heating & Power (CHP)

WHAT IS CHP?

CHP may not be as widely recognised as an energy-saving technology in the UK. The great news is CHP, also known as cogeneration, offers a cleaner, more efficient onsite solution to business heating and electricity requirements. It has been used for many years in industrial, commercial, leisure and institutional applications as a stand-alone technology. CHP can be deployed quickly, cost-effectively, and with few geographic limitations. CHP can use a variety of fuels, both fossil- and renewable-based.

THE BENEFITS

So how can CHP help reduce your energy costs? There are some quickly identifiable benefits with a CHP plant installation compared with conventional brought in electricity. CHP site-produced heat provides typical cost savings of between 15% and 40% of electricity sourced from the grid and heat generated by on-site boilers. CHP also typically provides energy savings of around 20% and also helps reduce site emissions compared to conventional electrical generators and onsite boilers. CHP also gives you energy independence with the ability to provide on-site power production.

THE TECHY BIT

OK, so how does it work? CHP does exactly what it says on the label. It creates both heat and electricity within one single, highly efficient process. While generating heat, CHP is a process that takes traditional energy production and increases its efficiency as it captures other forms of wasted energy. CHP offers the capability to make more efficient and effective use of valuable primary energy resources and typically has an efficiency of over 80%.Now you understand how it works, is it for you? Well CHP is a perfect fit for businesses with regular energy and hot water demand such as agriculture, leisure, processing industries and where regulatory controlled hot water processes are critical, such as food and beverage production facilities. With a vast arrange of experience across many sectors and segments, LCS will be able to assess the potential for the application of a CHP system in your business.

HOW WE DO IT

We will survey your business operations and then provide a proposal for an entirely engineered CHP solution from detailed design, installation through to commissioning. Following the installation, we are here to provide a full management and maintenance package with performance health checks and verification via remote monitoring.

We will then put together a thorough business case, outlining the technology options available, benefits to the company and costs, and if you are eligible as a business, we will also assist you with Carbon Trust funding options to offer you the most appropriate system for your needs and budget.
