Established in 1889 in Melbourne as a japanning works the company has evolved with the changing technologies and demands of industry. For over thirty years Wharington has moulded Recopol™ internal mouldings for upholstered furniture for the Australian furniture manufacturing industry. In the late 1990's Wharington sought assistance from the Centre for Design at RMIT University to prepare the company for the 'greening' of the economy. On completion of the EcoReDesign2 programme the company developed their own range of finished furniture for the government and corporate markets while continuing to supply other furniture manufacturers with Recopol™ shells. Wharington are specialist fabricators of stainless steel and use this sustainable alloy for the leg and arm frames of their furniture. Design plays an important role in the life of the company, Wharington employs industrial designers to work on our product development and to take client projects from concept to production.
