MTPak Coffee

Eco Friendly Food Packaging

We offer a range of sustainable coffee packaging, including certified recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable options.

Our low-VOC water-based inks and recyclable degassing valves ensure that every aspect of the packaging is eco-friendly, helping specialty roasters work towards becoming carbon neutral.

In 2016 Mark Zhou founded MT Packaging (now MTPak Coffee) in Shanghai. Inspired by the specialty coffee industry’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, his aim was to offer high-quality custom printed coffee bags made from recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable materials.

The following years saw MTPak Coffee’s international client portfolio expand with local representatives in Europe, North America, Australasia, Asia, and the Middle East.

In 2019 we further scaled our facilities and services. Today, we offer a complete range of coffee pouches and bags, along with drip filter coffee bags, packaging labels, takeaway cups, boxes, and more. We also offer a low minimum order quantity (MOQ) on both recyclable and traditional options.

Our services include an expert design team, high-quality flexographic and rotogravure printing, fast delivery, and more.

Sustainability goals

Carbon neutrality

Recently, an increasing number of coffee businesses have stated their intention to become carbon neutral by 2030. Prompted by growing concerns about the environmental impact of the coffee supply chain, both big and small businesses have made it their priority to reduce carbon emissions in whatever way they can.

At MTPak Coffee, we understand the importance of these aims. That’s why we offer coffee packaging that minimises the carbon footprint of specialty roasters. Our recyclable and compostable coffee packaging require fewer carbon emissions to produce that conventional packaging, while our water-based inks are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Circular economy

A circular economy is a closed-loop system in which waste is eliminated and resources are in continual use. The aim is to limit the environmental impact of products, equipment, and infrastructure by improving their productivity, as opposed to a linear economic system of “take, make, dispose”.

With our sustainable coffee packaging materials and components, our mission is to promote a circular economy in the coffee industry. This is achieved both through our compostable materials (kraft paper, PLA) and our recyclable materials (kraft paper, rice paper, PLA, and LDPE). Our degassing valves are also fully recyclable.

UNDP Sustainability Goals

In 2015, all United Nations member states adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of an aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030. Achieving the SDGs requires the collaboration of governments, the private sector, civil society, and citizens across all industries.

As part of the global coffee community, we understand how important it is to help the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) work towards its SDGs by the 2030 deadline. While we can’t cover all 17 of the objectives, our commitment to sustainable packaging and innovation will help both ourselves and coffee roasters do their bit to create a better planet for future generations.

Are you ready to switch to sustainable coffee packaging?

Specialties

Sustainability certifications for coffee packaging

Sustainability certifications are important for all those in the coffee supply chain. Not only do they lead to greater transparency, they are useful in communicating a genuine commitment to sustainability.

Symbols featured on the sides and bases of coffee pouches instruct end-consumers in the correct disposal of empty packaging, helping to minimise waste and carbon emissions.

At MTPak Coffee, we strive for a circular economy, in which all the materials we use for coffee packaging can be continually reintroduced to the production cycle.

Our “Go Green” coffee packaging is certified by third-party organisations, who carried out tests to verify its compliance with international standards.

Here are our four key sustainable certificates for recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable coffee bags and takeaway cups:

FSC

LDPE

European certification standard (EN 13432)

The Institute cyclos-HTP symbol signifies that multilayer films based on polyethylene (PE) and polyamide 6 (PA6) are certified as recyclable.
