Chumbe Island is an exclusive eco-destination situated off the South West coast of Zanzibar, approximately 15km South West of Stone Town. Chumbe Island Coral Park includes a fully protected coral reef sanctuary, forest reserve, education centre and breezy eco-lodge immersed in nature, designed to have zero impact on the environment. The 55ha coral reef is home to a highly diverse hard coral community and 500 reef fish species. Rare wildlife protected on and around the island includes the giant coconut crab, Ader’s duiker (antelope), turtles and dolphins.

As a not-for-profit enterprise, the revenue generated by ecotourism funds all conservation management and Chumbe’s environmental education programme. Operational for more than 25 years, Chumbe is the world’s 1. financially self-sustaining marine protected area.
