We offer a full architectural service for energy-smart buildings, taking projects from concept to completion. 

Our speciality is sustainable, low-energy design, and we use a variety of design principles and green technologies to create spaces which are high on wellbeing and low on carbon and utility costs.

Optimised orientation and layout, extensive double glazing, super air-tight fabric, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, hemp-fibre insulation, CLT timber-frames, plant-based paints, green roofs, rainwater harvesting, light wells, biomass boilers, local natural materials and solar power are just some of the green features we have extensive experience with. 

We are based in Brighton & Hove, UK, and work on both residential and commercial projects throughout the South-East of England. 

Energy-efficiency is hugely beneficial to homes and workplaces due to the reduced running costs, enhanced property value and more comfortable indoor environment. Use of natural materials, daylighting and good ventilation improve health and wellbeing, and also productivity – especially useful for commercial premises.

Our experienced and friendly team will take you through the whole design and build process, starting with a no-strings consultation with our director and senior architect, Mark Pellant. The full architectural service includes everything from your initial idea to move-in:

Many also utilise renewable energy technologies and biophilic design. When desired by the client we apply for third-party certification, such as PassivHaus, Home Quality Mark or others, but certification is not required for every project.

Sustainability Reporting

ESP was developed by JLL as a specialist sustainability reporting tool for real estate industry clients, and as such, it is structured in such a way as to simplify the process of data collection, tracking, recording, analysis, reporting and action. ESP has a series of standardized reports/graphics, along with customizable views which allow end users the flexibility of push-button reporting for typical real estate needs, or the ability to interrogate data in a more detailed sense. ESP is currently in use across more than 40,000 client sites globally. ESP is a web-based application designed to be implemented in a single building, or across a portfolio, delivering sustainability data to owners and occupiers easily and efficiently. By managing utility data, greenhouse gas emissions, savings initiatives and site performance tracking in one centralised system, clients have full transparency of performance and progress across the portfolio.

ESP combines our expertise and sustainability services with an industry-leading technology solution to deliver detailed sustainability performance information. This application enables clients to:

  • Track emissions, consumption and cost data against baselines and targets.
  • Access a comprehensive and robust environmental dataset at the push of a button.
  • Identify performance improvements that lead to significant improvements in processing time for monthly and quarterly reports.

For those who want advanced capability,  ESP can integrate with many different building management systems and meter data providers to automatically receive sub-meter interval data.  This enables a better understanding of where energy is used and when, and the identification of opportunities for improved performance.

NABERS Certification

 

The National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) is a national rating system that measures the environmental performance of Australian buildings, tenancies and homes.. With widespread adoption by the commercial property industry and now a requirement under the Commercial Building Disclosure program, NABERS has been a key part of driving improved environmental performance in the built environment. NABERS was developed and is managed by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, on behalf of Commonwealth, state and territory governments.  

NABERS can be used to assess the energy efficiency, water usage, waste management and indoor environment quality across the following building types:

  • Offices
  • Data centres
  • Shopping centres
  • Hotels
  • Homes

There are currently 14 NABERS Accredited Assessors located around Australia who can conduct a NABERS rating and work with you on an improvement plan to help realise the benefits of improved sustainability performance. For those who also require a Tenancy Lighting Assessment as part of mandatory Commercial Building Disclosure, we can also help.

Green Mark Certification

BCA Green Mark, developed and administered by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) is an internationally recognised sustainability rating system applicable to new buildings and fitouts (Design and Construction) and  existing building performance.  BCA Green Mark has been providing meaningful differentiation of buildings in the real estate market for more than ten years and continues to drive Singapore’s construction industry towards more environment-friendly buildings.

BCA Green Mark is applicable to many building types including commercial property, schools, healthcare facilities and data centres. JLL has extensive experience with Green Mark since its introduction in 2005.  We can add value every step of the way starting with a gap assessment to help our clients understand what certification level is achievable.  Our approach to integrated design and understanding of property operations helps ensure your asset continues to perform post rating certification.

We’ve recently helped one of Singapore’s leading banks to achieve a Green Mark portfolio rating for 20 of their branches.  This streamlined approach enables clients to achieve multiple ratings with minimal effort and realise the benefits of green buildings across more of their property portfolio

Green Star Certification

Green Star, developed and administered by the Green Building Council of Australia is an internationally recognised sustainability rating system applicable to the Design, Construction and Operation of Buildings, Precincts and Fitouts.  The aim of this tool is to guide project teams to make conscious decisions around energy & water efficiency, material & equipment selection with the goal of promoting healthy and resource efficient environments.

The current tools available under the Green Star program include:

  • Design & As-Built – for new buildings
  • Interiors – for new fitouts
  • Performance – for existing buildings in operation\
  • Communities – for precincts

In order to facilitate a streamlined approach for our Clients to achieve multiple ratings with minimal effort, JLL has been involved in:

  • Volume Certification – mass certification of new construction & refurbishment of commercial fitouts
  • Portfolio Certification – mass certification of operational buildings within a portfolio.

Since June 2016, to aid the efficiency of Portfolio Certification and following a lengthy partnership with the Green Building Council of Australia, 16 of JLL’s Building Management practices have been recognised as meeting benchmarks for sustainable operation through the GBCA’s Recognised Provider program.  JLL is the first organisation to be awarded this status for operational performance in Australia.

JLL’s ESS team members sit on two committees including the Green Star Experience & Skills Advisory Group and the Technical Advisory Group along with membership to the GBCA’s Faculty where JLL is called upon to teach and facilitate Green Star courses and workshops.  There are currently 8 Green Star Accredited Professionals and Associates within Australia.

In terms of delivering outperformance for Clients, JLL’s ESS team received the first 6 star ‘World Leadership’ Green Star Performance rating for Commonwealth Bank Place at Darling Quarter in 2015.  We also provided Green Star Accredited Professional (GSAP) and Sustainability Consulting services to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia when they received the first 5 star ‘Australian Excellence’ Volume Rating for a financial institution in 2016.  The success of our projects to date is a reflection of our desire to listen to our clients and work to adapt the tool to work for them.
