VGBC is a program of Green Cities Fund, Inc., an international non-profit organisation based in California, USA. VGBC was established in 2007 with an aim to raise awareness and build capacity for the development of green building in Vietnam. VGBC’s goal is to act as a catalyst encouraging government, academia and private sector cooperation to achieve a more sustainable built environment. VGBC’s core areas of focus 1. Raising awareness & Advocacy VGBC advocates Green Building at academia, industry and Government level. VGBC also presents, participates in workshops and publishes online resources such as the green database. 2. LOTUS Green building rating tools & Technical research VGBC, its partners and members defined the first green building rating system for Vietnam– the LOTUS scheme. LOTUS is based on various international GB standards but relates to local codes, to suit Vietnam legal, climate and construction industry contexts. For more information regarding LOTUS click here. VGBC also actively conducts research into sustainable construction topics in a tropical context, as well as contributing to the improvement of sustainable construction legislation in Vietnam. 3. Education In partnership with ARUP & Green Consult Asia VGBC has developed various education programmes – Green Building Basics, and LOTUS Accredited Professional (AP) courses. Approximately 200 professionals have taken part in trainings to date.
